Mama Said
North Carolina-based MAMA SAID has taken root for their latest album; both stylistically and in the material they chose for this project. A balance of original tunes and classics such as Columbus Stockade Blues and Cottonfields, all performed acoustically, have made for a gem of an album. A true standout on “Take Root” is the duet performance of Long Black Veil which has always begged to be served up this way. Passionate vocals and kickin’ guitar and percussions establishes “Take Root” as the breakout album for MAMA SAID.

“Take Root” is an album which tells stories of lost loves and comin’ home. As grounded as the songs are, they are perfected with lifting, beautiful vocal performances by Nancy Owen and guitar and vocals by Phil Ruff. Choosing to balance the project with African drum percussions only has created a rich and unique production for this second album released under Americana Records.

Stephen Simmons
Stephen Simmons
Since Stephen Simmons first came on the scene three years ago aggresively touring North America and Europe (with 2 titles under Rounder Records overseas) he has caught the attention of critics worldwide for his intellegent lyricism and his earthy performances. “Something In Between” is his U.S, national debut and it is also his strongest release to date, being released in North America through Americana Records (Rounder Records only for Europe). Stephen’s favorable press and grassroots campaign throughout Texas, the Southeast and Midwest states garnered interest from Mojo Magazine which listed him, along with the likes of Bobby Bare, Jr. and Josh Ritter, as “One Of Five Young Bucks Taking a Lead From Johnny Cash.”

“a singer-songwriter of marked
depth and commitment,(he) recalls a more
subdued Steve Earle,a more grounded Ryan
Adams and any aggregation of three-named
Texas troubadours you’d care to recall.”
